Different Types of Home Heating Systems.
1. Radiators.
2. Underfloor heating.
3. Cast iron stoves.
4. Insert stoves.
5. Masonry heaters.
1. Radiators.
Radiators are heated directly by water, water heated in the heat exchanger, heat exchanger heated from direct flame (boiler: gas, oil, diesel, wood, pellets ect.) For this heating system, it needs electric energy to supply the boiler, transfer fluids into systems.
Efficiency: Combustion efficiency its one, overall efficiency after all transfers is two, electric losses is tree. What is overall efficiency? Dust in the house, dry air, heating costs, installation costs.
2. Underfloor heating
Underfloor heating accumulating heat and radiate, but depend how it’s installed and what kind of surface heat needs get across (material) . It is the same heat losses as in radiator system, fluids travelling same, but here more benefits - the thermal mass hold the heat in underfloor system and radiate the heat longer as the radiator system. More efficient as the radiator system.
Review: Efficiency, heating costs, installation costs, for the comfort for you surface temperatures cannot higher as +25 - 30 C.
3. Cast Iron stoves
Cast iron stoves fast heat transfer to the room, but not suitable hold heat long time, they are works and radiate heat just when is fire on. To heat the house with cast iron stove possible - just lit the fire all day long. Some of the cast iron stoves flue gases are very hot over +250/+350 C or above and have direct connection to the chimney.
Review: Efficiency combustion or overall efficiency? Some of the cast iron stoves efficiency 90% or more but overall efficiency it is a not more as 50%. Heat Waves sharp, burning oxygen, drying the air.
4. Insert stoves.
Insert stoves can be very efficient depend how master installing them: installing in to a fireplace hole and connect directly to the chimney - this means heat the nature. The temperatures producing from insert stoves and going out can be +700 C or more. If the stove are installed in to a hole the heating is just from the glass. Right installation is in to accumulating shell and connect to the accumulating block or wall. That can makes accumulating stove. Then your house heated very fast directly from hot air and rest of the day stove radiate heat slowly, in the house is nice and warm all day long.
Review: Installation without understanding and wrong way what is overall efficiency? Right installation can have very high overall efficient, heating cost for all house less as in previously paragraphs. Guide how to install insert stove>>>>>>>>>>>>>
5. Masonry Heaters.
Masonry heater is the Heart Of The House. The infrared spells from the flame and hot gases directly heats masonry heater walls and heated thermal mass of a masonry heater radiates infrared rays slowly all day long. Combustion temperatures are very high over +1000 C but when the gases(smoke) leave the heater it is cold just over 100 C. Infrared spells radiates and heats not just the premises, they pass through alive bodies giving comfort and health. In the house the atmosphere is always nice and warm.
Review: The masonry heater can accumulate a large amount of heat just from one fire a day. Infrared radiant heat from clay stoves have healing properties.
Even if the combustion efficiency is 99% the overall efficient cannot be the same – there is the loses for transferring heat, but overall efficient highest of all previously systems.
